Afandou is an attractive traditional Greek village surrounded by beautiful countryside.
Description
Afandou is an attractive, traditional Greek village set on the northeastern coast of Rhodes, just 20 kilometres from Rhodes Airport. Holidays to Afandou surround you with beautiful countryside that consists of fragrant orchards and ancient olive groves. One of the largest villages on the island, its name intriguingly means "invisible", as the village was positioned behind a hill away from the beach to protect it from pirates that once roamed the seas. Much quieter these days, any excitement revolves around the low-key entertainment to be found on sultry evenings, in and around the village's many traditional tavernas and a few bars that can be found here. For a complete change of pace and scenery, the vibrant and more hectic resort of Faliraki is only a short distance away.
Set on the Mediterranean east coast of Rhodes with easy access to seven kilometres of beach, Afandou's main beach consists mainly of small pebbles, which are continuously being removed by the aggregates industry, leaving behind a lovely sandy beach. The water is clear and shallow, and because of its position on the Mediterranean side of the island, very calm, making it perfect for swimming. If that's not enough of a reason to head to the beach, this palm tree flanked beach regularly wins the Blue Flag award. Traganou is the name of the beginning of Afandou Beach. Very clean and pebbled with a couple of shallow caves to explore. A taverna on the beach provides refreshment making it an ideal spot to spot to enjoy.
Afandou mainly attracts families and couples who like to relax during the day while being in a central location from which to explore more of the island of Rhodes. Whether you want a lively time or a chilled out, authentic Greek experience, you will find it here on holidays to Afandou.
