Destination Profile

Lefkada is full of rustic old villages set in lush green hillsides, where you can enjoy a peaceful drink in a shady square. But if you would prefer something more atmospheric, there are plenty of luxury resorts where you can enjoy the night away.

Spend your days at Lefkada's beautiful beaches, with a diverse selection to choose from. Navagio Beach is only accessible by boat and features a shipwreck on its shore, surrounded by towering cliffs and clear waters. Porto Katsiki is a beach surrounded by white-stone cliffs and breathtaking views - a popular spot for photographers. Kathisma Beach is popular with families as activities and water sports are scattered across a long shoreline. Naming only a few of Lefkada's beaches - there are plenty more to explore.

A road bridge across an ancient canal links it to the mainland, so visitors can enjoy the delights of island life but can also visit the mainland without setting foot on a ferry. Lovely seaside towns such as Parga and Nikopolis, are the remains of a huge Roman city only a  short drive away.

Popular resorts, such as Nidri and Mikros Yialos, are on the island's pretty, sheltered east side. The rugged coast on the wilder western edge has picturesque sandy beaches like Agios Nikitas.

Vassiliki, the windsurfing Mecca, is in a deep bay on the southern tip. Busy Lefkada Town is in the north, with Venetian churches and a medieval castle nearby.

An August kitesurfing festival is one of the highlights of the sports calendar on Lefkada, a hotspot for waterskiing, windsurfing and other activities ranging from gentle paddleboarding to dramatic flyboarding - shooting above the waves propelled by jets of water. There are plenty of instructors and the shallow shoreline is perfect for beginners.
